We are a contemporary and abstract art gallery in historic downtown Charleston, representing local, regional, and national artists created by John Townsend's vision.
A Charleston native, John grew up a few blocks from the gallery, South of Broad,
on the downtown peninsula. John opened this gallery in 2002, in a beautiful Queen Street building dating back to the 1860s, after retiring from careers in the US Air Force and National Weather Service. He was inspired to follow his passion for art and to create artwork himself.
He built a studio within the gallery to nurture his lifelong love for art and creativity. Upon visiting the Atrium Art Gallery, you will likely find John in his studio, creating his next mindful artistic creation.
Julie Dunn, the gallery director and art consultant, who has been with the gallery since it opened, has been pivotal in the gallery's evolution. She has chosen every artist and has curated every piece of art in the gallery for over a decade. Julie created the marketing, branding, and media channels at Atrium Art Gallery and has been the lead in managing, directing, and selling at this successful gallery year after year. Her
creative soul, mixed with a business background, has been pivotal in creating this
must-see art gallery in Charleston.
